Virginia Championship Wrestling kicks off their 2023 season by returning to the Kroc Center of Hampton Roads this Saturday night February 11th with a stacked card of incredible action! The Kroc Center is a beautiful facility located at 1401 Ballentine Blvd in Norfolk. VCW has a long history of supporting The Salvation Army and look to continue that trend this year with events at this venue. Doors will open at 6:30 PM with bell time scheduled for 7:30 PM. Front row seats are sold out, but you can still purchase general admission ringside for $25 online at vcwprowrestling.com.
In the main event, Logan Easton Laroux defends the Virginia Heavyweight Championship against the number one contender Dezmon King. King and Laroux have a long history that all started on the night Laroux became champion. King had tossed Laroux over the top rope in the Liberty Lottery match, which should have counted as an elimination and a victory for the “Relentless” one. Unfortunately, the referees did not see Laroux hit the floor, so he re-entered the ring and eliminated King for the win. Later in that same evening, the “Champion of the 1%” cashed in his guaranteed title shot against an exhausted Virginia Heavyweight Champion to become the top dog in the Commonwealth. Dezmon King has been chomping at the bit to get his hands on Laroux ever since that fateful night. Finally, he earned his title match by defeating three other wrestlers in the Tidings of Destruction Derby at the last VCW event of 2022. This bout is nearly seven months in the making and is sure to be one VCW fans won’t soon forget!
VCW Tag Team Champions the Golden Pinky Society will defend their gold against the fearsome, face-painted duo known as The Batiri. Fans will remember that The Reason has made it his mission to ensure the reign of Benjamin Banks and “Diamond” Victor Griff comes to an end sooner rather than later. So far, he has been unsuccessful in stopping the momentum of the champions, as they continue to overcome every obstacle in their path. After their most recent title defense, The Reason assaulted Banks with a steel chair out of frustration. He then went on to state that The Batiri, a veteran team from the Northeast, would be their next opponents with himself accompanying them at ringside. The deck is certainly stacked against the Golden Pinky Society once again. It will be interesting to see if they can somehow defy the odds.
One of the most popular wrestlers on the VCW roster locks up with one of the most hated, as The Boar takes on “Mr. Xcellence” Brandon Scott. The last time VCW was at the Kroc Center, Brandon Scott eliminated The Boar from an eight-man tag team match by pulling his tights for illegal leverage. Now that The Boar has settled a score with The Sharkey Tank, he’s turned his sights toward Scott. This could be his greatest challenge to date since “Mr. Xcellence” is a former three-time Virginia Heavyweight Champion. Whoever walks out of this one the winner is likely going to find themselves in contention for the most prestigious title in Virginia.
The new VCW Liberty Champion Dirty Money puts his title on the line against the returning Myles Hawkins. Hawkins was still relatively new to the sport the last time he competed in Norfolk but has since had some amazing matches against top tier competitors throughout the Mid-Atlantic. The last time Dirty Money was the VCW Liberty Champion, he had to relinquish the title due to unforeseen circumstances after an impressive two-year reign. If that is any indication of what the future holds, the returning challenger is going to have his work cut out for him on Saturday night.
Speaking of returns, Impact Wrestling star Savannah Evans will also return to Norfolk when she battles Adrianna. This will be Adrianna’s first match in VCW so she’s going to want to make a statement. However, making a statement against an established competitor like Evans is going to be easier said than done. Fans have been elated to witness a resurgence of women’s professional wrestling in VCW. This contest is another step in that direction.
Back in December, VCW Director of Operations Jerry Stephanitsis introduced the first-ever Young Lions Challenge. To the surprise of all in attendance, his associate The Reason (who is a twenty- year veteran of the sport) competed against a much less experienced opponent, making quick work out of him. The Young Lions Challenge Part II takes place this Saturday night, but the combatants are still a complete mystery. What could “The Director” have up his sleeve this time?
In other action, Brazilian Jiujitsu World Champion Tim Spriggs goes one-on-one with Isaiah Frazier. Also, Zane Riley steps in the ring with Devantes who will be accompanied by “The Manager of Champions” Neil Sharkey.
With so many new faces and returning favorites, VCW is kicking off 2023 with a huge bang! Tickets to the first VCW event of 2023 this Saturday night at the Kroc Center of Hampton Roads can be purchased online at vcwprowrestling.com. The Kroc Center is located at 1401 Ballentine Blvd in Norfolk. I’ll see you at the matches!
