Broadcasting live on the WWE Network, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) will present WWE Survivor Series on November 18. Members of the Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live rosters will battle against each other for bragging rights amongst the two brands.
Former Universal Champion Roman Reigns made a shocking announcement to the WWE Universe on October 22 that he would be vacating his title due to illness. Reigns noted that for the past 11 years, he has been living with Leukemia. In a prior bout with the disease, he was able to force the cancer into remission. With the disease returning and forcing him to step away from in-ring competition, Reigns made it known that he is not announcing his retirement. With the title vacated, Brock Lesnar defeated Braun Strowman at WWE Crown Jewel to become the new WWE Universal Champion.
Several Champion versus Champion bouts will take place at Survivor Series, but these titles are not on the line for either competitor. The aforementioned WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar will take on SmackDown Live’s WWE Champion AJ Styles. In what is to be a duel of the arm bar submissions, SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch will compete against Raw Women’s Champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey. Newly crowned Raw Tag Team Champions AOP (Authors of Pain) will square off with SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Bar (Sheamus and Cesaro). WWE Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins will also compete for the first time against WWE United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura at this event.
As is tradition, the event will feature several Survivor Series elimination tag team matches. Five male members of Monday Night Raw will take on five individuals from SmackDown Live, just as there will be a five –on-five Women’s match as well. The respective team captains are still putting their finishing touches on the team members at the time of this writing, but five tag teams from Raw will have an elimination match against five of the best tag teams from SmackDown Live in an elimination bout. In the sole title defense taking place at Survivor Series, WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy will defend his title against Mustafa Ali.
There have been numerous successful WWE Network special events broadcast from outside the United States in recent weeks, including WWE Super Showdown and WWE Crown Jewel. For fans of WWE’s Attitude Era of the late 1990s and early 2000s, I recommend watching these last two events if you want to see some familiar faces. Multi-time champion Rey Mysterio has returned to WWE full-time, creating the potential of many first-time dream matches against the newer crop of stars in the company. Additionally, WWE Hall of Famers Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels have each stepped back into the ring as of late. In Angle’s case, he has transitioned back to in-ring competition after Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon sent him on vacation from his General Manager duties. Shawn Michaels teamed with his Degeneration X partner Triple H at Crown Jewel to take on The Brothers of Destruction (The Undertaker and Kane) in a winning effort.
