After a successful fundraising event in Suffolk titled “Peanut City Showdown 2,” local professional wrestling promotion Vanguard Championship Wrestling (VCW) will return to the Norfolk Masonic Temple on Oct. 7.
Headlining “A Nightmare on Granby Street” will be current VCW Heavyweight Champion Brandon Scott defending his title against the returning Billy Gunn. Gunn, a former WWE Superstar, has competed against Scott for his title once before, this past February. Gunn was unsuccessful in that battle when Scott illegally used the title as a weapon behind the referee’s back.
Scott has managed to retain his title through nefarious means, achieving a record title reign of more than 640 days. His most recent victory was over Impact Wrestling star Caleb Konley in Suffolk. Scott’s manager Jerry Stephanitsis was banned from the building on this occasion.
Konley was seconded by legendary manager JJ Dillon, but would be double-crossed during the main event when Dillon sided with Scott to ensure a successful title defense. Fans and management alike were shocked by Dillon’s actions when he delivered a shot to VCW commissioner George Pantas’ skull with his loafer. Stephanitsis will return to Scott’s corner on Oct. 7.
Phil Brown, then only holding one half of the VCW Tag Team Championships, added a second title to his collection in Suffolk when he defeated Romonus for the VCW United States Liberty Championship.
Upon his loss, Romonus covered his own head with a hood and gifted his mask to Brown before exiting the ringside area. Brown will not have to wait long before defending his newly won championship as Chris Silvio will contend for the title in Norfolk. Brown will be pulling double duty as he and JJ Blake will defend their VCW Tag Team Championships against The Elements of Truth in Norfolk. The Elements of Truth scored a surprise victory over former Tag Team Champions The Hellcats in Suffolk, leading to their title opportunity.
Also on the card for Oct. 7: Noise Pollution versus The Hallstars in a No Disqualification/Falls Count Anywhere match, Livid the Clown versus Timmy Danger in a Trick or Treat Weapons match, Marcellus Prime versus Big Sean Studd, and comedian Tim Loulies will debut his Loulies Lounge interview segment with special guest Benjamin Banks.
The Norfolk Masonic Temple is located at 7001 Granby Street in Norfolk. Bell time is 7:30 p.m., and advanced tickets can be purchased at VCW-Wrestling.com. All children 12 years old and younger will be admitted free to the event and gifted free candy if wearing a costume.
