Vanguard Championship Wrestling (VCW) presents its biggest event of the summer, the 2017 Liberty Lottery, at the Norfolk Masonic Temple on Granby Street, July 29. A 20-man delayed-entry battle royal will headline the event, where the winner of the match can claim a title shot of his choosing within the next calendar year.
Hall of Famer Kevin Nash, also known to fans as former WWE Superstar Diesel, will appear at the event in an interview segment with Tim Loulies. A meet-and-greet with Nash will take place before the event for fans to get an autograph and photo with the former WWE Champion.
“Mr. Xcellence” Brandon Scott successfully defended his VCW Heavyweight Championship against “The Tongan Giant” Asaafi at the June 10 event in an exciting match. In a contest between Rex Sterling and Shannon Moore in June, “Diamond” Victor Griff returned and inserted himself into the match. Moore, overcoming an ankle injury, was able to gain the victory over the other two men. At Liberty Lottery, Shannon Moore will contend for Brandon Scott’s title.
Three competitors currently scheduled to take part in the Liberty Lottery battle royal were selected at random to compete in a triple-threat contest. Ken Dixon, Kekoa, and “Ruthless” Ryan Davidson will battle earlier in the evening at Liberty Lottery. The winner of this contest will be granted the No. 20 spot in the battle royal that evening and will have a significant advantage.
Also scheduled for Liberty Lottery is “The Latin Heartthrob” Gino defending his Commonwealth Heritage Championship against former Ring of Honor competitor and current Lucha Underground star Ricky Reyes.
Not all of the 20 competitors in the Liberty Lottery have been announced, but those already announced are impressive: “The Human Terminator” Marcellus Prime, Roc Richards, Maxx Morrison, Big Sean Studd, Benjamin Banks, “The Tongan Giant” Asaafi, The Juggernaut, Irvin Legend, Rob Barnes, and “Diamond” Victor Griff.
Notable stories from these competitors include the return of Irvin Legend. Legend suffered a concussion and other injuries at the hands of Juggernaut earlier this year. Benjamin Banks will not be accompanied by longtime manager Jerry Stephanitsis any longer after Stephanitsis expressed his anger over Banks’ losing record as of late.
Tickets for admission to VCW’s Liberty Lottery event, as well as the meet-and-greet with Scott Hall, can be purchased in advance at VCW-Wrestling.com. The meet-and-greet starts at 5 p.m., and the in-ring action begins at 7:30 p.m. Norfolk Masonic Temple is located at 7001 Granby Street in Norfolk. The VCW Network began streaming at VanguardChampionshipWrestling.Pivotshare.com for $4.99 a month. Subscribers gain access to select matches and full events from past years for VCW and other select pro-wrestling promotions.
