Hampton Roads native Jaiden Reyna, age 10, is currently ranked sixth in the nation among more than 85 ranked drivers in the Bandolero Bandit Division. He is the third highest ranked Virginia driver.

Attracting top up and coming racers from across the nation, the annual U.S. Legends Bojangles’ Summer Shootout returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway for 10 rounds of racing action, June 12-Aug. 1

With momentum building from a successful start to the season, Hampton Roads native Jaiden Reyna, age 10, is looking forward to getting down to business on the famous Speedway’s frontstretch quarter-mile with great anticipation. In the recently concluded Spring Series at Concord Speedway, the young Bandolero racer racked up eight top-5s in nine races, including a trio of podium finishes.

“The success I’ve had in the Spring season at Concord Speedway has been really phenomenal,” Reyna said. “We have a lot of top-5 finishes so far this year. I feel like we could win ourselves a couple of championships this season.”

{span}Formed in 2013, the Reyna Racing team is an Amateur Youth Motorsport team based in Hampton Roads. Team owners Pedro Reyna and Afton Thornhill, as well as Afton’s sister, Amber, are all U.S. Army veterans.

Jaiden Reyna is quick to give credit for his early-season success, and his enthusiasm to get back to action at Charlotte, to a relationship his family-owned team has formed with Tretow Racing this year. “Tretow Racing is working on my car this year, and Jake Tretow is my coach,” Reyna explained. “He races Legend Cars, so he helps me a lot with my race line and my marks. After having problems with our car last year, my mom decided to have someone else work on my race car this season. Having teammates for the first time is really cool — I like having friends at the track to talk to and hang out with.”

Jaiden is currently ranked sixth in the nation among more than 85 ranked drivers in the Bandolero Bandit Division. He is the third highest ranked Virginia driver. The Bojangles’ Summer Shootout is known for producing some of motorsports’s top talent, with drivers including Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, Ryan Blaney and Bubba Wallace among current alumni in NASCAR’s top-tier divisions.

The season kicks off with a double-header on June 12 and June 13, before continuing with a Tuesday-only schedule June 20 to July 25. The season concludes with another double-header on July 31 and Aug. 1.

“I’m even more excited for the Bojangles’ Summer Shootout this year because my car has been handling so great since Tretow Racing has been setting it up,” Reyna concluded. “I know I have a car that can run up front now, so I’m really eager to show everyone what I can do.”
