Norfolk set season-highs in runs scored and hits in a 16-9 win at Gwinnett Monday night.
Each Tides starter registered a hit in the contest, while eight different Norfolk batters drove in a run. David Washington and Pedro Alvarez both homered as part of a three-hit night, while Johnny Giavotella drove in three runs.
Giavotella extended his on-base streak to 22 in the win, as Norfolk rallied back from an early 6-1 deficit. Luis Sardinas, Drew Dosch and Craig Gentry each drove in two runs apiece, powering the Tides to a win in the opener of a three-game set.
Norfolk scored two runs in the fifth, six in the sixth, two in the seventh and five more in the eighth. The Tides had entered the contest with just two runs scored in the eighth inning through 56 games this season.
Paul Fry (2-0) earned the win in relief, registering four strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work. Norfolk starter Gabriel Ynoa took a no-decision after allowing six runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings.
The two clubs continue their three-game set on Tuesday, with first pitch from Lawrenceville set for 7:05 p.m.
