One month prior to their big Liberty Lottery annual event, Vanguard Championship Wrestling (VCW) returns to Norfolk Masonic Temple for a night full of professional wrestling action. Wrestling legend “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner will be in attendance to meet fans and will also be the special guest on the “Loulie’s Lounge” interview segment with Comedian Tim Loulies.
Several major matches have been signed for the event, including a Lucky 7 Battle Royal. The winner of the aforementioned battle will be awarded the final entry spot in July’s Liberty Lottery battle royal. Participants in Lucky 7 include such superstars as Simply Safe-ish (Wes Rogers and Livid the Clown), Timmy Danger, and Roc Richards.
New VCW Heavyweight Champion Gino will have his first title defense on June 15 as he defends against “Swipe Right” Joe Keys. Keys brought his grievances to VCW Commissioner George Pantas regarding his lack of opportunities in VCW over recent years, so Pantas has granted Keys the biggest opportunity of his VCW career – a shot at the company’s top title. Will “The Latin Heartthrob” be able to retain his title prior to his scheduled contest with Damien Wayne in July? Speaking of Wayne, Madd Maxx Morrison has stepped up to take on his trainer (Wayne) in response to Wayne’s recent attitude change.
VCW Tag Team Champions The Hell Cats (Jimmy Starz and Sexy Steve) have been signed to defend their titles against The Golden Pinky Society (Benjamin Banks and “Diamond” Victor Griff). Recently, The Golden Pinky Society nearly secured the titles in a previous contest, but a slap to referee Ron Mils’ face by Jimmy Starz brought an end to the bout with a disqualification. Another title will be on line June 15 as Commonwealth Heritage Champion Colby Corino faces “Mr. Studtacular” Brysin Scott.
A Virginia native, Scott makes the trip from Texas to the venue in which he made his professional wrestling debut a little over ten years ago. Corino’s string of success lately includes victories over Ken Dixon and “Franchise” Shane Douglas. Scott is fresh off of a feature on Comedy Central program “Klepper” as his group of war veterans (Valhalla Club) shined a light on combatting PTSD through the art of professional wrestling.
Also signed for VCW’s Norfolk return is Ken Dixon versus Caleb Konley. Konley last appeared for VCW in a bout against then Heavyweight Champion “Mr. Xcellence” Brandon Scott. Though unsuccessful in that contest, Konley impressed the fans and reminded the audience why he has become a name in VCW and other promotions across the country over the past decade. Dixon looks to return to his winning ways since losing his Commonwealth Heritage Championship in February.
Norfolk Masonic Temple is located at 7001 Granby Street in Norfolk, Virginia. Doors open at 6 p.m. for fans to meet the stars of the evening. Scott Steiner will also be meeting with fans for photos and autographs prior to the event. The wrestling action kicks off at 7:30 p.m.. Advance tickets for the event and the Scott Steiner meet and greet can be purchased at VCW-Wrestling.com.
