Hampton Roads offers a number of excellent child care options, including the Navy Child Development Centers and Navy-sponsored Child Development Home program (call 1-866-628-9232 for more on CDH). Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) provides free child care for children 6 weeks to 5 years old when active duty and/or family members have medical appointments at NMCP. For reservations or more information, call 953-6873. Finding quality accessible and affordable child care is possible for every military family. National Military Family Association, Military OneSource, the Child Care Aware Hotline (800) 424-2246 and Military Homefront all provide information about child care resources. For additional choices in the Hampton Roads community, contact The Planning Council’s Childcare Resource and Referral Service. The Planning Council, contracted by the Virginia Department of Social Services, trains child care providers and helps parents locate quality child care.

Hampton Roads has some of the finest military medical facilities in the world. There are more than 100,000 active duty service members and approximately 430,000 TRICARE beneficiaries in the area.

TRICARE Standard, Extra and Prime is open to all rates and ranks. Services provided at several locations. Flexibility in choosing a specific health care provider will affect the amount patient will pay in cost share.
